Snowwater Grove are pleased to announce that their Beltane celebration will be held on May 5th, 2012, at 3pm. All members of the community are cordially invited to attend.

Beltane is the second principal Celtic festival (apart from Samhain) and is the ancient date of the arrival of summer. It was celebrated approximately halfway between the spring equinox and midsummer.

This will be a Celtic style ADF Rite, and will be at our outside Nemeton on the Quinet Mothers Land out on Route 27 at the Crawford/Venango County line (between Fauncetown Road and Lesh Road on the North side). Come dressed for the weather, and prepared for primitive facilities (the land has no electricity, running water, or structures). If you need a chair, please bring one along (we run out fast).

We will be honouring the Local Land and Nature spirits with our first
public high day rite since the snow covered the land. Pre-ritual
briefing will be at 3pm, and ritual to start at 3:30pm. A camp fire
style potluck will follow the rite.

For more information, contact us by phone on 814 406 9794 or by email at info@snowwatergrove.org

The omen was good, and consisted of a rune for the past, present, and future, and another was offered that encompassed all of them. The runes drawn were sowilo,
ing, dagaz, and eihwaz, and the omen was judged to be good. The Waters of Life were taken in the form of wine donated by a friend of the Grove.

Imbolc was held at the Meadville Unitarian Universalist Church chapterhouse, and was attended by eight people. The deity of occasion was Brighid, a Celtic goddess whose areas of governance are given to protection of hearth and home, to healing and smithcraft, to weaving and the needle arts, to poetry and song, and to warriors. Those that were called for inspiration were the bards and storytellers of old, and the Gatekeeper was Blackbird. A Brighid’s Mantle had been prepared by two Grove members, and during the main praise offering was passed around the assembled company to imbue it with comfort and healing, to be used in service of the Folk throughout the coming year.

The omen was good, and was taken in the form of Ogham, and were asked for as wisdom given from Brighid for past, present, and future. The Past was the Broom; Healing, and Tools, fashioned by us to help us move forward. The Present was Silver Fir, Perserverence and Foresight- using the tools we have to work through the challenges facing us. And the Future was Willow, the quality of Flexibility- during those challenges, the Folk may flex and bend rather than break.

The Waters of Life were this time taken in the form of tea candles, for the Folk to take home and burn in their own hearths.

Yule was held at the Meadville UU on December 17th, 2011. It was well-attended, with eighteen total attendees. We invited the Frost Giants to be our Gatekeepers, based on their past enthusiasm and excellent handling of the work. Bragi was called for inspiration. There was no specific deity of occasion, and the main ritual offering took the form of a modified souling play assembled and tweaked by a Grove member. It detailed the traditional battle of the Holly King and Oak King for sovereignty of the Winter Season, and was enthusiastically participated in by the bulk of attendees. The omen was taken in runes, and what was received was good, and went as follows (with remarks by Grey)

“Gifu, Laguz, Ingwaz

From the Ancestors, Gifu, A Gift for a Gift as is said. The art of
hospitality goes a long way, and can be both a gift of giving, as well
as receiving
From the Nature Spirits; Laguz; The primordial waters, those we tap into
during the two powers, the waters of earth mother herself. Strong and
powerful, but with respect will mean that we don’t get swept away with
its currents.
From the Shining Ones; Ingwaz; The primordial male powers, growth,
strength in connecting each persons force. bonded together, a force to
be reckoned with.

Using our gifts, gives us the balance of the primordial female and male
powers, in balance. A positive, good omen for Yule. Take the blessings
here, shine in these cold winter months, for there is power there.”

The ADF Druids of Snow Water Grove invite all members of the community to our next public high day ritual: Samhain on Sunday November 5th 2011 at 3pm.

This will be a Celtic style ADF Rite, and will be indoors at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Meadville in the Parish House Living Room (the building to the left of the Sanctuary) located at:
346 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA 16335,
A time to raise a glass to our Ancestors, as well as say goodbye to this year, and welcome the coming in of a new spiritual year.

Join us on this high day where we set a place at our table for all our Ancestors, and offer them praise for helping us be where we are right now, to show that we remember them, and to offer them blessings by saying we have not forgotten them and their teachings.

The ADF Druids of Snow Water Grove invite all members of the community to our next public high day ritual: Autumnal Equinox on Saturday September 24th 2011 at 3pm.

This will be a Norse style ADF Rite, and will be at our outside Nemeton on the Quinet Mothers Land out on Route 27 at the Crawford/Venango County line (between Fauncetown Road and Lesh Road on the North side). Come dressed for the weather, and prepared for primitive facilities (the land has no electricity, running water, or structures). If you need a chair, please bring one along (we run out fast).

We will be honoring the Goddess Nerthus as our Deity Of Occasion at this transition from summer to fall, as a prelude for the cold winter blowing in.

Join us on this high day where we shall see her safely to her winters’ rest, by song and praise.

Pre-ritual briefing will be at 3pm, and ritual to start at 3:30pm. A camp fire style potluck will follow the rite.

We will be collecting non-perishable canned and boxed goods for the Salvation Army food pantry efforts in Meadville. Donations welcomed, which helps us pay for rental space during the winter time for us to provide open to the public rites.

If you have questions about the event, or need directions to the rite please contact us by phone on 814 406 9794 or email at info@snowwatergrove.org.
