Where did Snow Water start?
In the Summer of 2007, a group of like minded folks got together and discussed forming a group for the Crawford county and Meadville pagan community that would welcome new thoughts
and ideas. We wanted to join together in the sanctuary of nature based religion and share in a common purpose. We started working together towards a common goal, and by the dates below, nine founding members formed what is now known as Snow Water Grove, ADF.
We invite you to come join the common ground of nature based religion in worship of the Kindred that form the tapestry of life. (for more information on what we define as “Kindred”, please see the international ADF website.
How did Snow Water Grove get it’s name?
During one of the early gatherings at the farm where we intended to hold our outdoor rituals, a small ritual with a meditation was held. One of the members of the grove felt that the “spirits of place” were happy that there was a group meeting there and the local spirits of place were strongly suggesting the name of the farm as the name of the group. Also, there is legend saying that the word Conneaut (the geographical area we intend to serve) means Snow Water in
another language, although that has been disproved, it fits our environment, and many other things in the area have been referred to with the name of Snow Water.
Where did the logo come from?
The Snow Water logo came from a collaboration of images brought together by our founding members and friends. What appears as a snow flake actually contains runes of the Elder Futhark, and
what appears as wavy lines that look like water, are actually stylized runes as well (making 9 runes total) . The logo was also inspired by an Ogham and the Helm of Awe reflecting the Celtic and Norse/Teutonic leanings of the grove at this time. The oak leaf, and the rest of the design were put together in the image you see at the top left of the screen by a friend of the grove for use on patches, clothing items or banners. It has been modified a little for use on other items so look for our things available on cafe press! (check back often!) http://www.cafepress.com/snowwatergrove
